32. These Gifts I Ask

These gifts I ask of thee

To let me walk with thee

Teach me thy secret

To help me to bear the travellers road.

Give me the patience to be still,

And bear thy will.

Strength for the daily task,

Courage to venture wholly on the arm, that will not harm.

Give me the wisdom,

That will never let me stray,

Open wide our eyes to knowledge

Truth and beauty everywhere.

Give me the love

That never afflicts

But comforts and cheers

Every broken heart.

For love's strength standeth in Love's sacrifice.
